In brief
A defective product, a service that was not provided, or a term that was never fair, can be taken to a consumer commission without dressing it up as a civil suit. We file those complaints, and we defend businesses that receive them.
Discuss this matter
The complaint
Defective goods, deficient services, and unfair practices.
The commission
District, State, and National, according to the claim.
Both sides
Buyers who were not served, and businesses that have been sued.
The brief
What clients ask us
Choose a question. The answer sets out the work we actually take in this practice, in plain language.
Answer
The Consumer Protection Act gives a remedy for goods and services, not for every private grievance. The complaint has to fit that definition, and it has to say what went wrong in facts.
- Defective goods
- Deficient services
- Unfair trade practices
- Product liability and warranties
- Misleading advertisements
- Unfair terms in a contract

Which commission do you appear before?
Answer
The value of the claim decides the commission. An appeal from one level goes to the next. Filing in the wrong one wastes the limitation.
- District Commission
- State Commission
- National Commission
- Appeals from the order below
Do you act for businesses as well as buyers?
Answer
Yes. A business needs to know the obligation before the complaint arrives, and it needs a defence when one does.
- Complaints drafted and filed for consumers
- Advice to businesses on the duties the Act imposes
- Defence of businesses in the commission
What does the drafting involve?
Answer
The complaint is a short, factual document: who sold, what was promised, what failed, and what you want. A long narrative of irritation is not a cause of action.
- Consumer complaints
- Appeals
- The documents that should be annexed the first time
Can a consumer dispute be settled without a full hearing?
Answer
Often, and the Act encourages it. A settlement is worth doing when the refund, the replacement, or the compensation can be written in terms the commission will record.
- Mediation and the other settlement routes in consumer disputes
- Terms that deal with the product, the money, and the complaint together

How a matter moves
01
Is it a consumer dispute?
We check that the person is a consumer and that the grievance is about goods or a service.
02
The right commission
Value, limitation, and territorial jurisdiction are settled before the complaint is typed.
03
File or defend
The complaint, or the written version of the opposite party, is filed with the documents.
04
Hearing or settlement
The matter is argued, or it is settled on terms that can be enforced.

Questions on this practice
The builder has not handed over the flat. Is that a consumer case?
It often is. The agreement, the payments, and the promised date are the complaint. Bring those, not only the brochure.
I run a shop and a customer has filed a complaint. What is the first reply?
A written version, on time, with the bill, the warranty, and what you actually offered to do. Silence is treated as a choice.
Can I claim a refund and compensation together?
You can ask. The commission grants what the evidence supports. We plead both where the facts allow, and we do not inflate the number for effect.
Is there a deadline?
Yes. Limitation runs from the cause of action, with a narrow power to condone delay. Do not wait out a long exchange of emails if the date of the defect is already clear.
Will you tell a business how to avoid the next complaint?
Yes. Warranties, advertisements, and standard terms are where the next complaint is usually hiding. That review is part of the practice.
